What is dermal filler?

Dermal filler that is used is a hyaluronic acid based filler. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar molecule that is present within all skin tissue cells. It is a sterile injectable gel used to treat drooping or sagging skin. We have deep fat pads in the face that the normal aging process breaks down, causing an ‘aged’ appearance. Excessive stress, weight loss, sun damage and smoking can also accelerate this breakdown. The face changes; cheeks appear flatter, undereye area hollows, skin changes texture and heaviness in the lower face occurs (jowelling). This can make the face appear tired, unhappy and sad- looking. The fat pads can be subtly revolumised to rejuvenate areas of lost support in the face/ neck and the tissues can be augmented to reverse these signs of aging. It can also be used to naturally enhance areas where more volume is desired or to augment tissue to create more balanced features, to bring more definition to a face or to produce a more harmonious profile. It is used to treat deeper folds of the skin than an anti-wrinkle treatment. Different thicknesses of filler are available, and the filler prescribed will be one that has been selected specifically for your skin type and to achieve the result desired.

Treatment Procedure:

A thorough consultation, diagnosis and treatment plan will be made for each patient depending on the concern, and a suitable treatment plan will be prescribed.
The skin will be thoroughly numbed with a topical anaesthetic agent to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. Following this, the skin will be cleansed, and marked up with a white pencil to identify and measure areas of treatment. The treatment includes using micro-needles or a cannula (a thin tube) to deliver filler to the tissues.

What are full face transformations?

Dr Emily is known for full face transformations using dermal filler (in conjunction with Allergan injectables, skin boosters and skin care) - this involves revolumising several areas of the face to create a natural, more balanced aesthetic.

What does the treatment feel like?

Typical anaesthetic is used to numb the treatment area to make the treatment comfortable. Dr Emily is known for her gentle delivery of treatments. Some patients even say they could have a nap whilst undergoing treatment!

How long does it take?

Depending on the procedure, this can usually be anything from 10-20 minutes.

How is an anti-wrinkle injectable different to dermal filler?

Dermal filler is a volumising gel - it is used to target deep volume loss and deeper folds and wrinkles caused by fat pad loss, not muscle movement directly.
Anti-wrinkle injectables are a muscle relaxant in the form of a fluid - it is used to target fine lines and wrinkles in the surface of the skin caused by muscle movement.

When will I see results?

Results are immediate. There is virtually no down time and patients can resume their daily activities.

I am worried I will look unnatural after treatment and people will be able to tell I have had something done?

Dr Emily is known for her subtle and natural results. You will still look like yourself, just fresher and well rested.
