Chemical Peel

Chemical peels use a safe biochemical agent to exfoliate dead surface skin cells that are impossible to remove using physical exfoliation only. This also stimulates new cell growth and collagen and elastin production, which in turn produces smoother plumper looking skin. Depending on the type of chemical peel, this treats problems such as fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, sun damage, acne, dullness, reduced radiance and scarring. A thorough consultation, diagnosis and treatment plan will be made for each patient depending on the skin concern, and a suitable chemical peel will be prescribed.

The agents include glycolic acid, salicylic, mandelic acid, lactic acid and trichloroacetic acid (TCA) - the agent chosen depends on the depth of the peel and the effect desired. The peels offered include Obaji Blue Radiance peel and Dermaceutic Skin Peels.

Depending on the Fitzgerald skin type, some patients will need to ‘prepare’ their skin before having a skin peel to prevent unwanted side effects and complications, this can include using retinol and hydroquinone for 6-8 weeks before the peel procedure.

Procedure:

The procedure includes skin cleansing, the preparation being left on the skin for a specific amount of time depending on the peel (up to 20mins) and then is usually washed off. A protective SPF will then be applied to the skin after treatment.

Side effects/ downtime:

Some peels have zero downtime and your skin will instantly look fresher and brighter
Possible redness immediately post-peel
Flaking off of the dead skin cells may occur 1-7 days after treatment

Contraindications:

Pregnancy and breastfeeding patients are unsuitable candidates for a skin peel.
Some skin types are unsuitable for a skin peel
Skin peels are safe with a medical practitioner with good training.

Anti-wrinkle Treatment

What is
ANTI WRINKLE TREATMENT?

Allergan anti-wrinkle injectable is a purified protein derived from bacteria - it is a used to relax muscle - this maintains some natural movement but softens and prevents ‘lines in the skin’ in the classic 3 areas: forehead, frown around eyes. The treatment is administered using ‘invisible’ needles making the treatment almost pain-free. Allergan anti-wrinkle injectable can be used to prevent wrinkles developing and can also soften any already present.

How does it Work
01

Facial Movement & Ageing

When we speak or express ourselves, facial muscles move. Over time, reduced collagen and elastin cause skin to lose its bounce, leading to creases and wrinkles.

02

Muscle Relaxant Injection

A small amount of muscle relaxant is injected into the targeted muscle, blocking the nerve signals that tell it to contract.

03

Smoother Appearance

With reduced muscle movement, skin cells aren’t compressed, allowing wrinkles to soften and become less visible.

What else can it be used for

Allergan anti-wrinkle injectable can be used to relax a hypertonic (strong) muscle caused by genetics, a habit or an individual’s anatomy - for example it is used very commonly to treat headaches and migraine, a higher upper lip on smiling than normal (gummy smile), neck bands, strong chin muscles (causing a downturned corners of the mouth). It can also be used to reduce the activity of sweat glands such as under the armpits and sweaty palms, reduce the size of large calf muscles and prevent tooth grinding/ chipping teeth/ jaw pain.

How does it differ from Derma Filler

As we age, we lose collagen and elastin from the skin which reduces the skin’s elasticity. A muscle relaxant in the form of a fluid - it is used to target fine lines and wrinkles in the surface of the skin. Dermal filler is a volumising gel - it is used to target deep volume loss and deeper folds and wrinkles caused by fat pad loss, not muscle movement directly.
